The slang name for pirated software (a corruption of "softwares") used by those who obtain and circulate pirated software for pleasure or profit. Used mostly in the US. Widely used in cracker subcultures to denote cracked version of commercial softwares, that is versions from which copy-protection has been stripped. Hackers recognize this term but don't use it themselves. |
