| Computers For Communication |
|
A generic term referring to use of computers for communication. This communication may be across telephone lines but increasingly may also be across other carriers such as the type of coaxial cable used to provide cable TV service. The term includes communication using computers linked either one-to-one or in networks of interlinked computers. The most common use of interlinked computers now is by way of the Internet. Another increasingly common use is by "intranet." An intranet is a private network which serves a single organization, such as a corporation. |
