A very reliable asynchronous file transfer protocol that can communicate successfully with virtually any system. Because of this portability, throughput is significantly reduced. A file transfer protocol, once popular among users of online services and bulletin boards. Mostly superseded by Zmodem, which is faster and offers the ability to resume an aborted transfers. Kermit is still widely used to transfer data across cables between Unix systems, primarily because the kermit program was ported to so many machines. |
