The Vocabulary of a Language

     When discussing markup languages, extensibility means that the vocabulary of a language is not wholly predetermined, but is defined by the author. Typically, this means that, within the syntactic confines of the metalanguage, the author of an electronic text can choose the elements and their relationships, and then formalize the design in a Document Type Definition.
