Harvesting Email Addresses

Bug Club Logo

Spammers often use robots to collect email addresses from Web sites!
Spammers naturally need e-mail addresses for their mailing lists. While they can simply invent addresses if their only purpose is to sell these lists with the argument of sheer size, even then it would be nice if the addresses worked. A very good source that is easy to use are Web sites. They are a good source because creators of a page usually want their visitors to have a means to contact them; what better means could there be than email? Web sites are a source that is easy to use because the specified structure (HTML) makes them a target for robots. They scan the pages for mailto: links and -- voilą -- this is where the email addresses are.
Email Harvesters can harvest bulk email addresses from an e-mail server. They can also send bulk e-mail to every valid e-mail address while harvesting! They can get more than 5500 email addresses per minute at 56Kbps speed! They can save the curreny harvesting progress and load it to resume work at a later time.
If have an HTML web page of your own, use one of the free Yahoo or HotMail address as the online contact. Never use your personal e-mail for web pages! This will reduce the exposure to the email harvesters, and reduce the amount of bulk junk mail in your inbox!
