What is IDE? Integrated Drive Electronics Controller Drives
Integrated Device (or Drive) Electronics
The hard-drive interface has its own integrated controller on the drives itself. The IDE specification handles hard disks up to 504MB in size. However, because it's a limited specification and slower speeds, EIDE, SCSI, and UDMA are gradually replacing IDE.
