| The hard-drive interface has its own integrated controller on the drives itself. The IDE specification handles hard disks up to 504MB in size. Because of its simple instruction set and the short route between controller and drives, it's a quick and easy type of drives to use. However, because it's a limited specification and slower speeds, EIDE, SCSI, and UDMA are gradually replacing IDE. |
