Known as Firewire, IEEE 1394 is a standard for high-speed serial connections approved by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The standard was designed for the exchange of information between PCs and electronics devices that transfer large amounts of data, such as digital cameras, camcorders, or VCRs. Currently, there are an extremely limited number of Firewire devices, but supporters of PC and TV convergence think the standard will be more widely adopted as time goes on. Windows 98 will support Firewire-compliant devices.
