The most popular operating system for IBM PC-compatible computers and the most widely used piece of software in history. IBM originally adopted MSDos for its PC computers, calling it PCDos. Microsoft has continued to develop the operating system - it's now in version 6 - while others, including Novell (with DRDos) and IBM (with PCDos), have continued to develop their own alternatives, though MS' version remains by far the most popular.
