An elctrically conductive medium, in which current flow is due to the movement of ions. In a lead-acid battery, the electrolyte is a solution of sulfuric acid. In other batteries, the electrolyte may be very different. A conducting medium in an which the flow of current is accompanied by a movement of matter. Most often an aqueous solution of acids, bases, or salts, but includes many other media, such as fused salts, ionized gases, some solids, etc. (2) A substance that is capable of forming a conducting liquid medium when dissolved or melted. |
