What is a CMOS Battery? BIOS Keeps Information PC Alive Date

What is the CMOS battery for:
The battery keeps information about your PC alive, even when the PC is off. Information is typically the Date, Time, Hard Drive and Floppy drive types, Power Management and many other configurations you can make to this setup. For interest sake only: CMOS is Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor, a type of chip that can be reprogrammed. The Chip contains a utility program that you can change and is associated with the BIOS (see BIOS).
If you play with the CMOS settings "setup", all is not lost because you can restore defaults. NEVER put a password on the Setup, you might forget it and not be able to get in to the BIOS at a later stage to upgrade / reconfigure.
