A shallow-cycle battery is like your normal car battery. Deep cycle batteries are different - they have much thicker plates, and are intended for usage where they must supply power over a long period of time, as opposed to the car batteries that only needs to supply a lot of amps for a few seconds. A deep cycle battery is designed to be discharged down to 50% or more many times without damage. A typical starting battery is usually only discharged around 3% to 5% - and deep-cycling a car batteries will lead to rapid failure. |
